Dear Hill Community,
We enjoyed welcoming back our face to face Dillos for on-campus learning this week. We are so proud of how seriously they take their safety on campus. Thank you all for your continued diligence right now at home during this COVID-19 surge in Austin. Please avoid contact with people outside of your household and keep your student(s) home if they show any symptoms of illness. For now, we understand and support any families who would like to temporarily move to virtual learning that have been face to face. We believe Hill is a safe place for learning. It takes an entire community to ensure it continues.

You may have seen that Austin ISD has made four school days this spring “asynchronous”. They are Jan. 29, Feb. 26, March 5 and April 9. We don’t have full information yet but expect it this upcoming week. Please make plans for students to work virtually from home on these days. We will remind our community as those days get closer. More information will be shared soon.

We would like to invite everyone interested to two upcoming Principal Check-Ins. The first will be a normal check-in led by me. It will be this upcoming Wednesday, January 13th, at 4:00 pm. Here is the Zoom information:

Hill is proud to announce that for the 4th consecutive year, our amazing counselors have been given the CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence in the State of Texas) Award for Excellence. This year, they were awarded the Leadership Level for the first time, which is an even more prestigious honor. Dillo Cheer for all that Ms. Winfrey and Ms. Stover due for our students on a daily basis.

I thought I would leave everyone with our modernization construction pictures for this week on our new buildings. The future of our campus is taking shape quickly. Also, please know this Friday is our first No Place for Hate Dress-Up Day with the theme “Zoom In to Kindness”. Students and staff can wear virtual learning clothes: Business on top, pajamas on the bottom! We look forward to another great week of learning at Hill School.

Report Cards

It is report card time and it looks a little different this year than it has in the past. We want to ensure everyone knows how to access this information through the parent portal. Thank you for understanding report cards may not appear until early January.

  • Login to my.austinisd.org with your parent credentials.
  • Click on the magnifying glass and type in “report”
  • A tile called “Report Card” (yellow tile with ABC on it) should come up. Click on it.
  • Click on your student name (if you have multiple students).
  • A pdf should open with your student’s latest report card. It may be downloaded to your downloads directory, if you are set up to do that on your device.
  • This tile is DIFFERENT THAN THE TEAMS tile where grades are.

A Letter from Principal Drummond

Happy New Year, Hill community! We are excited to welcome all of our students back to learning as we begin the spring semester.

Dr. Elizalde announced this week that we will follow our planned calendar and schedule this week for the district. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 6th. January 4th is a student and staff holiday. January 5th is a staff professional development day and student holiday.

Our campus will be open on Wednesday for face to face learning for students of families that have chosen that method and communicated it in December. As our superintendent stated this week, virtual learning will still be available the rest of this school year for families who choose it.

As we reopen our physical campus, we do encourage families to continue to be as cautious as possible at school and outside of school. We are confident Hill is a safe place based on our protocols and the dedication of our amazing staff. We also recognize that with Austin-Travis County being at COVID-19 Stage 5, we must all be even more diligent to keep everyone safe. Thank you for avoiding large gatherings and close contacts with people outside of your direct household that could lead to direct exposures. If you have any concerns from the winter break, we encourage families to take advantage of virtual learning out of caution. We are a strong school community. We thank you for your support of keeping our school open for learning as this pandemic continues.

We will see everyone on Wednesday. Have a great end to the winter break!
